There are many unspoilt beaches in the area and several highland distilleries to enjoy including The Ardnamurchan Distillery. . This is also the perfect starting point from which to explore some of the Inner Hebrides with an Island Hopscotch ticket.
As a base to explore Argyll, renting self catering accommodation near Cairnbaan would be hard to beat. Kilmartin Glen and Museum has the most wonderful collection of ancient standing stones. While boat trips to the world famous Corryvreckan whirlpool are hard to beat for excitement.
If you like going to the beach, you can cycle or drive to Crinan Ferry (about 4 miles) where you will find a lovely sandy beach and great views. The Mull of Kintyre (made famous by Paul McCartney and Wings) is a lovely area to explore and has some fantastic sandy beaches suitable for picnics, body boarding. And let’s not forget the world-famous Macrihanish Golf Course (Great Scottish links collection). You can also catch ferries for day trips to the islands of Islay and Jura (famous for their whisky distilleries), Gigha and Arran.
The town of Lochgilphead is only 3 miles from Cairnbaan and has a supermarket, petrol stations, banks, shops, pubs, Indian and Chinese restaurants, a chip shop, a swimming pool, sports centre and a 9 hole golf course open to visitors. If you wish to explore further afield, Oban is known as the 'Gateway to the Isles' and here you can catch ferries to several Inner Hebridean islands including Mull, Iona, Tiree and Colonsay.
