Trochry, Birnam, Amulree, Sma' Glen near Dunkeld in Perthshire
From Crieff follow the road through the Sma' Glen towards Dunkeld. The drive is amazing passing through highland Perthshire and Amulree, a favourite for car touring in Perthshire and the scenery is fantastic!
Trochry is only a few miles from Dunkeld on the Sma' Glen road which is one of the old Wade roads. This is an ideal area to be based for easy access to Perth, Edinburgh and further north. Houses are for rent in places close by - look at the map search to see
Blair Castle with its wonderful gardens and the House of Bruar (The Harrods of the North, terrific shopping for all pockets!) are just 30 minutes up the A9 - great for a day out. Dunkeld with its cathedral set on the banks of the Tay is only five miles or Aberfeldy is twelve miles with a wonderful book shop in an old water mill, fantastic coffee and cakes while you read the papers plus walks along the Tay. Castle Menzies and the House of Menzies where you can try New World wines are worth a visit and you may be tempted by a Highland Safari or a trip into the hills where you can try gold panning.
Wildlife is in abundance and birdwatcher love this area - if you are lucky you may see a golden eagle soaring, buzzards crying overhead, or the cry of oyster catchers and curlew. Dunkeld has many excellent and varied walks to offer including the Hermitage and Rumbling Bridge Falls. Fishing can be arranged locally, quad biking and many other activities are available in the strath and surrounding area.
