Highland Perthshire (The Big Tree County) is renowned for its year round splendour and Dunkeld is one of its most enchanting villages. At the heart of Scotland, it is a haven for those who love the outdoors or country pursuits. Dunkeld has a medieval cathedral with peaceful riverside gardens (free entry). The adjacent church is open daily and has a small museum (chapter room). On the doorstep there is an abundance of wildlife and a wide range of opportunities to enjoy the outdoors. There is vast selection of well marked forestry and riverside walks with Dunkeld being the starting point and a little further afield there are many peaks attractive to Munro baggers.

If you enjoy wildlife, nearby Loch of the Lowes (walking distance) has its resident ospreys who come here to breed. Red and sika deer are often seen on the edge of the village and red squirrels are frequent visitors. Being out in the gloaming will be necessary if you want to see the more elusive pine martins but they have been sighted near Dunkeld. The area is also a favourite for both road biking and mountain biking with a popular downhill mountain bike track at the nearby Hermitage. Salmon and trout fishing are also available.

Perthshire is rich in history and culture and there are a great many visitor attractions, historic buildings, castles and gardens, and other villages and towns within a short drive. The Birnam Institute in the Victorian village of Birnam (a 15 min walk) is an interesting arts centre with theatre and cafe. It has a year-round range of stage productions, concerts and art exhibitions. Dunkeld has a small supermarket, bakers, butcher, cafes, gift shops, hairdresser and beauticians. There is a great selection of places to eat in Dunkeld with four pubs, one with regular live Scottish folk music, and two restaurants all within 3 minutes walk. The nearby Hilton Hotel hosts dinner dances and has a swimming pool, gymnasium, sauna and steam room and daily or weekly membership is available. Dunkeld golf course fringes the eastern edge of the village and its clubhouse has breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside.

The perfect holiday retreat.
A wonderful flat! Right in the heart of Dunkeld but quiet with a lovely garden. We enjoyed sitting in the garden looking out towards the hills and catching a glimpse of the river. The flat had everything we needed in it and it was just a nip around the corner to wonderful restaurants and shops. We fell in love with the flat, the town, and the surrounding walks, forests and rivers.

Pristine and perfect self-catering accommodation.
I have just returned from a wonderful time at the wee garden flat. The location is excellent right in the middle of Dunkeld and close to the shops and restaurants. The Flat is modern, immaculately clean and has every conceivable item that you may need while living away from home. The bonus is a beautiful private garden very green, very peaceful and full of birdlife with some distant view of the Burnham hills and the river Tay. I hope to return to the flat at the earliest opportunity and would have no hesitation in recommending this property for a fabulous stay.
