The Stable Bothy, Inchcape, Rogart, Sutherland

The Stable Bothy has forests and mountains, lochs and glens, spectacular beaches and sheltered coastlines within reach, so you can enjoy walking, , fishing, playing golf or simply appreciating the view and the space. The surrounding area is a paradise for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts alike.

Uncover the rich history of the area with its numerous historical sites, including castles, crannogs, brochs, and standing stones. Explore Dunrobin Castle in Golspie or the Castle of Mey in Caithness, once a beloved retreat of the late Queen Mother. Be sure to visit the remnants of the Carn Liath Broch, an Iron Age roundhouse, and take a stroll to the abandoned clearance village of Badbea, a poignant site located on a steep hillside by the coast. Further north are the Cairns of Camster, a pair of Neolithic tombs that date back over 5,000 years.

Explore nearby distilleries such as Glenmorangie, Balblair, Dalmore, or Clynelish. Or venture further north, to Old Pulteney in Caithness. While in Dornoch, be sure to check out the Carnegie Whisky Cellars, an independent whisky shop that offers tastings of both whisky and gin.

The Scottish Highlands are famous for their diverse flora and fauna. Enjoy the local wildlife right from the comfort of the bothy, where you may see red kites and buzzards gliding overhead or hear the eerie call of the snipe in flight and the roaring of stags during the autumn rut. Close by is the Loch Fleet National Nature Reserve, an estuary where you can watch seals basking on the sandbanks, and waders and wildfowl feeding along the shore. Consider taking a boat trip to spot dolphins or visit the Falls of Shin to witness the impressive sight of migrating salmon leaping upstream to their spawning grounds.

The scenic beauty will inspire any artist or photographer and there are many interesting walks nearby to suit all levels of fitness and ability.

The Stable Bothy is well positioned for exploring both the east and west coasts. The east coast has several small towns with beautiful beaches, plenty of restaurants and some excellent golf courses. The dramatic mountain scenery of the west coast has plenty of scope for the hill walking enthusiast, as well as many scenic drives. The town of Ullapool is also a very popular attraction within an hour and a half drive.

Golfers are in for a treat with the championship course Royal Dornoch, regarded as one of the best links courses in the world, only 14 miles away. Golspie, Tain and Brora offer 18-hole courses in traditional Scottish links style. A little further afield are two further excellent links courses: Castle Stuart near Inverness has hosted the Scottish Open and Nairn Golf Club has had the Walker Cup.

From relaxed cafés to formal dining, there's a variety of options in the area within 20 miles. In Lairg is The Pier Café, and in Dornoch you're spoiled for choice with Luigi's, Royal Golf Hotel, Mara at Links House, and Greens at the Courthouse among the options. In Tain, there are Greens Restaurant and Platform 1864, while in Brora is The Royal Marine Hotel.
