The Birdhouse luxury self-catering cottage is close to the village of Applecross, sits on 'the edge of the world' on the Applecross Peninsula in the Scottish Highlands. The cottage is on the western edge of the Applecross peninsula, near secluded beaches, 3 miles down the road from the well-known Applecross Inn and Applecross Village, and just off the NC500 route.

The Birdhouse is perched at the top of the garden behind Shell Cottage in the quiet hamlet of Culduie in Applecross. Culduie is perhaps most famous for the setting of the Man Booker Prize short-listed book ‘His Bloody Project’ written by Graeme MacRae Burnet.
Nestled at the foot of an ancient Scots Pine in the hamlet of Culduie, guests at the Birdhouse can expect a king size bed, beautiful shower room, wood burning stove and an abundance of unique creative charm.
From the doorstep of there are numerous beautiful walks to secluded beaches, mountains, rivers and lochans. Native wildlife and birdlife are in abundance. There are plenty of opportunities for munro baggers, walkers, keen photographers, artists and writers. While those who enjoy sea kayaking, paddle boarding, fishing and wild swimming will have much to see and do.

The Birdhouse interiors merge contemporary Scottish with creative magic, painted in calming Farrow and Ball colours. Beautiful tweeds, lovely linens and sumptuous cushions give an air of understated luxury. Attention to detail with skillful carpentry and a quirky bird theme runs throughout the bothy. Original paintings by Scottish Artists hang on the walls.
The shower room is equipped with luxury linens, fluffy towels and gorgeous Highland Soap Company Organic hand and body products. The well equipped livingroom / kitchen area has a flat screen smart tv, free wi-fi, Bluetooth Bose speaker, mini dishwasher, fridge, mini oven with grill and 2 ring hob, and store cupboard basics. Inside the front door is a compact drying cupboard for those wetter days. A hanging wardrobe, hairdryer, washing machine and cleaning cupboard are tucked away in the bedroom behind the old corrugated iron doors.
The property is heated with the wood burning stove and efficient heating system throughout. Cosy winter nights beckon. For those sunnier moments the well-positioned bench in front of the house invites you to admire the views afar with a glass of wine or watch the birds in the garden. There is a separate barbeque area with seating for eating al fresco.
Directions:
To reach The Birdhouse from the East Coast, Applecross is around two and a half hours from Inverness, where there is an airport with car hire and a train station. Edinburgh Airport and Glasgow Airports are around five hours away. From the West Coast, Kyle of Lochalsh and the Isle of Skye are around one and a half hours away.
The Bealach na Ba (pass of the cattle) into Applecross is one of the highest mountain passes in Britain, which is part of the North Coast 500 (NC500) Route. For inexperienced drivers or those afraid of heights, the scenic coast road from the North brings you into Applecross from Shieldaig and Torridon. This route is about fifteen minutes longer than the Bealach na Ba.
Please note that all roads in and out of Applecross are single track, so anticipate for journeys to take a little bit longer. Mobile coverage is patchy once you reach Applecross.
What's included:
The tariff incorporates electricity, logs, wi-fi, linen, towels and a bag of charcoal. A welcome basket on arrival contains a bottle of fizz, Applecross Ale and savoury nibbles. Also provided are tea, coffee, sugar, salt, pepper, tin foil, cling film, matches, firelighters, cleaning products, toilet rolls.
A well-behaved small or medium sized dog is welcome. An extra tariff of £30 will be charged per stay for a dog. Please note, dogs are strictly by prior arrangement only. The Birdhouse is not suitable for children
