Ice House Cottage is new luxury self catering holiday cottage available to let on the Lochinch Castle Heritage Estate. Beautifully restored and carefully finished to an exceptionally high standard, this self-catering property retains many of its original features. Set within a designed landscape, the cottage is situated close to the remains of the Victorian Ice House and is a short walk from the Home Farm and Lochinch Castle.

Lochinch Castle is part of Stair Estates. Situated at one end of Castle Kennedy Gardens (open to the public), the Castle is set between two large natural lochs which are a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest for breeding wader and wintering wildfowl, and surrounded by 75 acres of beautiful sculptured terraces, avenues and gardens. This is an idyllic holiday cottage in Galloway!

Ice House Cottage is a picturesque single storey building with Farrow and Ball walls, Colefax and Fowler fabrics, luxurious White Company bed linen and a mixture of antiques and contemporary furniture. The Cottage enjoys a peaceful aspect overlooking an extensive garden and the picturesque hill known as Balker Brae and Balker Moor beyond.

The centrally heated Cottage has a sunny, comfortable living/dining room with a log burning stove, stylish fully equipped kitchen with a Belfast sink, two gorgeous bedrooms, a well-appointed bathroom, luxurious bed linen and large towels from the White Company, flat screen TV, wi-fi, a large garden, climbing frame, out-building, free fire logs, bikes and private car parking.

A welcome pack is provided for guests on arrival including a bottle of milk, bread, jam, butter, tea, coffee and fresh flowers from the garden (when in season). The cottage is well equipped with the general basics from washing-up liquid to bin bags and loo roll.

Guests can enjoy free access to explore the gardens which offer a varied programme of regular events from children's activities, to open air theatre, guided garden walks and annual festivals. Our lodge guests can also enjoy special discounts in our Gift Shop and Tea Room. Fishing permits for both Lochs can also be arranged as can a number of seasonal activities within the Estate including: salmon and sea-trout fishing, Red deer stalking, duck flighting , pheasant shooting, private Estate Landrover Tours, walking and cycling.

The surrounding area is full of scenic treasures, including deserted sandy beaches, exotic gardens, rolling hillsides and open estuaries. The Southern Upland Way is located close by as is the River Luce which offers excellent fly fishing.

The town of Stranraer is just three miles away with a wide range of pubs, restaurants, shops and activities including cinema, swimming and a museum. Other local attractions include a whisky distillery, Mull of Galloway Lighthouse, Wigtown Book Town and the picturesque sea-side village of Port Patrick where guests can enjoy excellent seafood restaurants, village stores and pubs.

For those who are interested in exploring further, there are numerous castles and historic attractions; book, music, food and art festivals as well as museums, visitor centres, and adventure playgrounds. This is a perfectly peaceful haven for a special occasion or just to relax and unwind.

Ice House Cottage is a picturesque single storey building with Farrow and Ball walls, Colefax and Fowler fabrics, luxurious White Company bed linen and a mixture of antiques and contemporary furniture. The cottage enjoys a peaceful aspect overlooking an extensive garden and the gorgeous hill known as Balker Brae and Balker Moor beyond.

The sunny and welcoming sitting/dining room has a wood burning stove and plenty of comfortable seating, TV, DVD and Freeview Digital receiver along with an ipod dock/speaker system and a midi sound system. A selection of classic films, books and games should while away a few hours and a dining table that can seat up to 6 completes the room. It overlooks the garden and surrounding wood in one direction and the fields and hills beyond in the other.

The stylish new kitchen is extremely well equipped and has a Belfast sink, dishwasher, fridge, freezer, clothes washer/dryer, breakfast area and a microwave, cooker and an oven.

The pretty first bedroom contains twin beds with comfortable mattresses and the second larger room has a superb quality king size bed. The bedrooms are prepared with the finest cotton bed linen and luxuriously indulgent soft towels from The White Company. The bathroom comprises a new, traditional white bath, sink and WC with a powerful over-bath shower.

Outside, there is a large private garden that contains some beautiful flowering plants, a climbing frame with swings, an outside seating area and a log store. An attractive traditional stone outhouse in the garden contains a barbeque, bicycles and garden furniture. There is ample private car parking at the side of the property.

Guests are able to enjoy unlimited access to Castle Kennedy Gardens and the surrounding Lochinch Heritage Estate, and all that they offer through-out the different seasons.

Directions:

Ice House Cottage is situated approximately 3 miles east of Stranraer on the A75. The road takes you up a small hill and on the left hand side is the entrance where there are large iron gates. On the opposite side is a church in some trees. (If you reach Castle Kennedy village you have gone too far). Turn into the gates and follow the road for 2 miles until you reach Lochinch Castle. Directly in front of the castle turn left and head towards Black Loch. Take the second turning left and drive alongside the loch. Ice House Cottage is just past the loch on the left at the junction.

If approaching from the east, take the A75 to Castle Kennedy village. Shortly after the village you will notice a long wall on the right hand side. Proceed until you reach large entrance gates on the right hand side, enter and proceed as above.

If approaching from the north, from the A77, when you are approximately 2 miles from Stranraer turn left onto the A751 (signposted Dumfries). After about 3 miles, at the junction with the A75, turn left. You will immediately drive up a small hill and on the left are the main entrance gates.

Ice House Cottage is suitable for people with limited mobility. It is recommended that you contact the housekeeper to confirm specific requirements.

Cost and availability

Ice House Cottage is rented out throughout the year. Change over day is Saturday, 4pm for arrival and 10am for departure. Short breaks welcome off peak.

For an additional cost, a home-made meal and food items for breakfast, which are locally sourced, can be provided. With advance notice a local caterer to help you during your stay can be arranged.
