Newport-on-Tay, Fife
The Haven nestles in the picturesque hamlet of Kirkton of Balmerino with great views over the River Tay to the Sidlaw hills beyond. It is an ideal base for walkers and cyclists and there are lots of routes from the doorstep to suit all abilities. A few minutes walk from the cottage are the ruins of Balmerino Abbey, a Cistercian monastery dating back to 1229.
Kirkton of Balmerino is only a few miles from the motorway making it ideal for touring and exploring central Scotland. Edinburgh or Glasgow are readily accessible within a couple of hours drive.
The mediaeval university town of St Andrews with its castle, cathedral and city walls has a wide range of shops, bars and restaurants, sandy beaches, an excellent theatre, a cinema and leisure centre not to mention some world famous golf courses including The Old Course. The quaint fishing villages in the East Neuk of Fife are worth visiting and are host to a variety of art, craft, theatre and music festivals during the summer months.
As well as several golf courses in the area, there are many more opportunities for sporting and outdoor activities. The riding school at Kinshaldy (about 11 miles from the cottage) is situated in the middle of Tentsmuir Forest and there are plenty of chances to take part in a whole range of water sports including sailing, canoeing, water skiing and windsurfing in the East Neuk.
The city of Dundee is only about a twenty minute drive from the cottage. The waterfront area has been extensively remodelled and now boasts the V&A museum. Next to this is the Discovery ship, built in Dundee to take Captain Scott to Antarctica. Dundee has a vibrant arts and culture scene with Dundee Contemporary Arts as its creative hub and has recently started hosting open air concerts throughout the summer months in Slessor Gardens.

Accommodation:
This traditional Scottish stome cottage has been fully renovated and modernised, whilst retaining its character and charm with a wealth of natural wood features. Adjacent to Auchenblae, which is also available for rent and sleeps 6.
The Haven has its own private gardens, which offer stunning views over the Tay to the hills beyond. The patio area is just the place to sit on warm summer evenings, to watch the sun set over the river. The rear garden is beautifully landscaped and is a great place to enjoy morning coffee as it catches the morning sun.
All the accommodation in The Haven is on the ground floor, but guests should note that there are 4 steps from the hall into the double bedroom. There is also one small step in the hall, where the levels change. The main sitting room has an open fire and comfortable furniture and the sun room has a woodburning stove and a door into the garden - both are lovely rooms to relax in. The double bedroom also has a wood burning stove (very romantic!) and a TV on the wall, as well as a very comfortable bed. The kitchen is very well appointed with everything you'll need. All the rooms have lovely river or garden views.
