Scotstoun Farmhouse, West Linton, Scottish Borders
Whatever time of year you choose to visit, the Scottish Borders is awake and alive with attractions. The area has a turbulent and romantic history and is punctuated by imposing castles, stately mansions, dramatic ruins and historic abbeys. The place names reflect various waves of invaders from Celtic to Norman and there are ancient fortifications, battle-fields, standing stones and ruined abbeys, which all provide the backdrop of the region. All of these ancient and historical sites are as potent to the imagination now as they were to Sir Walter Scott and James Hogg, the Ettrick Shepherd, nearly 200 years ago.
A wide range of activities are available for anyone wishing to enjoy the great outdoors. As well as local opportunities for walking, fishing, cycling, golf and pony trekking there are also sporting centres throughout the region. You will find swimming pools and leisure centres, clay pigeon shooting, off road driving, birds of prey, a marine centre on the east coast and many more. Glentress Mountain biking centre known for having some of the best mountain biking trails at every level in the UK is twenty minutes drive. Alternatively you may want to just switch off and relax, in which case Scotstoun Farmhouse is the ideal location.
