Moray holiday cottage

Blaemuir Cottage
nr Buckie, Moray

The county of Moray is known as the Scottish Riviera as it gets very little rain and has a warmer and more gentle climate than most other parts of the UK. The North East of Scotland has remained largely undiscovered and is extremely beautiful - it is a great place to rent a Scottish cottage. There are miles of deserted sandy beaches and rocky coves, pretty fishing villages (including Pennan - set of the film Local Hero), forests, mountains and lochs. The famous Whisky and Historic Castle Trails take you on a discovery journey through Moray.

Moray is a wildlife lovers dream. The Moray Firth boasts its own resident dolphin population which can be spotted all year round - you can see them from the beach of take a boat trip out to see them close up. Osprey can be seen from May, fishing for salmon from the sea at Spey Bay nature reserve (and further down the Spey River) along with many hundreds of migrating birds. Otter, seals, eagles and whales can also be spotted throughout the year. If you want a birdwatching holiday in Scotland then this holiday cottage in Moray is ideal.

If you want a walking holiday in Scotland then the Speyside Way starts close by - it is a way-marked trail covering nearly 100 miles through Moray. Cycling is easy from this Scottish self-catering cottage - the National Cycle Route is signposted, taking you through lovely forests and pretty Moray fishing villages. Moray has more golf courses than any other county in the UK - many are just a few minutes drive from the cottage. Horse riding and sea/loch fishing for trout and salmon can easily be arranged if you are staying here.
