Hill House
Altandhu, Achiltibuie, by Ullapool, Wester Ross |
|
The scenery in the north-west of Scotland is about as good as it
gets… majestic mountains sweep down to a wild and miraculously
unspoiled coast. It is one of the most remote and beautiful corners
of the British Isles. There are abundant walking opportunities both
along the coast and in the surrounding hills.
Hill House offers a unique self-catering holiday in an old croft
house which has been owned and enjoyed by the same family for 35
years. It is simple but charming, and an ideal holiday retreat for
those wanting to spend time outdoors experiencing this unique area of
Scotland. The self catering cottage near Achiltibuie is full of
character and charm with pieces of furniture made from driftwood and
herring boxes. Hill House will appeal to anyone looking for an
atmospheric place to stay with access to an unspoilt area of Scotland.

Accommodation:
Hill House does not contain the normal luxuries expected of Tourist
Baord standards (TV, fitted kitchen, linen, cleaners, etc) but has
everything you need to be very comfortable. A recently added
conservatory allows you to admire the wonderful views of sea, islands
and mountains.
Although the house is let out so that it pays its way and
for improvements, it is very much a “lived in” home and not an
impersonal rental house. Downstairs – kitchen, bathroom, sitting room
and conservatory. Upstairs WC/basin, two bedrooms each with 2 beds
(foam on peg-board – extremely comfortable). Some of the furniture is
made of driftwood and herring boxes; but is has one or two elegant
pieces of furniture as well!
Directions:
Altandhu is approx 2 hours drive from Inverness – 1 hour to Ullapool
and 45 minutes from Ullapool. From Ullapool take the A835 Ullapool to
Durness road and turn off about 10 miles north of Ullapool. Follow
directions to Achiltibuie. The most obvious landmark is the Summer
Isles Smokehouse in Altandhu which is on the road itself. There are
three houses above the road behind the Smokehouse. It is the one in
the centre with black metallic roof, white-painted walls and a wooden
conservatory.
What's included:
Electricity in the summer. Duvets and pillows are provided but
no linen so bring your own sheets, undersheets, duvet covers, pillow
cases, bath mats, tea towels and bath towels. Coal/peat can be
bought at the local shop.
Cost and availability.
The cottage is rented out year round - change over time is on a
Saturday at noon. The owners request that the house is very clean
ready for the next guests.
