Shore Road, South Queensferry, Edinburgh

Holiday cottage Scotland close to Forth Road Bridge

This beautiful ground floor apartment, situated in the picturesque village of South Queensferry, is located a stone's throw away from the Firth of Forth. There are unspoilt views from the property between the world famous Forth Road and Rail Bridges to neighbouring Fife, offering a base from which guests can both relax whilst enjoying fantastic access to all that Scotland has to offer.

Only a 10 minute journey south to Edinburgh, South Queensferry is an ideal location to explore Scotland's stunning and historic capital, where The Castle, Royal Mile, Prince's Street Gardens, museums and galleries, among many other attractions, awaits guests. Travellers in July and August can enjoy the spectrum of performing arts that the world-famous Edinburgh International Festival and Fringe bring to the city, then escape from the hustle-and-bustle back to Shore Road to recharge their batteries for the next day's events.

Twenty miles north, St Andrews is within easy reach by car or from the local train station. The 'home of golf' is a must-visit for all golfers who can play the four of the available courses (advanced booking required). The same excellent road and rail links brings the Scottish Highlands, lochs and magnificent mountains within the easy reach of guests. Only 60 minutes drive away, The Trossachs and Loch Lomond are particularly recommended.

Guests do not need to travel to fill their days. South Queensferry itself is full of attractions with the cobbled streets and historic buildings such as St Mary's Church and the Black Castle. Inchcolm Abbey on Inchcolm island is accessible by boat from the base of the Rail Bridge where there is an abundance of wildlife including seals, cormorants and grey herons. The more active can take advantage of many local walks, most notably through the grounds of the magnificient country estate of Dalmeny House that juts out into the Forth estuary, thus combining seashore and country vistas. Port Edgar Marina, where sailing, windsurfing, and canoeing lessons and equipment hire is available, is only a mere 100 metres from the property. Cycling, fishing and horse riding can also be arranged locally. Guests can further build an appetite by walking the short distance across the beach (30 metres away) and harbour (100 metres away), both of which are visible from Shore Road and discover the many restaurants - of which the most famous is The Hawes Inn, which featured in Robert Louis Stevenson's 'Kidnapped' - and cafes on the terraced streets and lanes, then finish the evening with a 'dram' of whisky and live music in the local bars. Little more than 5 miles from Edinburgh, Shore Road provides the perfect base for discovering Scotland's history, scenery and hospitality.
