Situated in the heart of the Scottish countryside near the historic towns of Biggar and Lanark, and yet within 40 minutes of both Edinburgh and Glasgow city centres, the cottages are easily accessible by road or rail. The original farm has been redeveloped to the highest standards and now comprises a luxury complex of holiday cottages, all 5-star graded by Visit Scotland.

The Murehall, part of the ancient farming lands of Carnwath, has its origins in the early 16th century, the land having been granted under Royal Charter by James IV of Scotland to the Somervell family when the famhouse and cottages would have housed the laird and the farm workers. Some of the remarkable features of the renovated cottages include the massive, solid oak trusses and beams throughout, hand made log beds; the original stone has been used in the refurbishment; and the stone fireplaces have been rebuilt using finely finished sandstone and South African granite. If you are looking for a totally luxurious holiday cottage in Scotland then this is the place to stay!

Accommodation:

Each cottage has been converted from an original farm building to provide luxurious accommodation while still retaining many original features.

Shire Cottage, originally built to house the shire horses, has a large stone fireplace framed in double oak beamed support as its most striking feature. A hand-made breakfast bar and an open plan kitchen look onto the spectacular fireplace, and 2 double bedrooms complete this luxury cottage.

Hayloft Cottage, as the name suggests, was where the mown hay was stored. This is a two-storey cottage with a striking wood bridge between the two upstairs bedrooms. There is an open plan kitchen and a sittingroom with large patio doors. The cottage is light, bright and airy and the bedrooms have beautiful views over the quiet countryside to the south and west.

Ruin Cottage has been transformed from a 16th century derelict ruin into a particularly bright and airy bungalow-style cottage. This is a spacious cottage, with a large kitchen and a dining area with patio doors and a view onto the garden. A unique stone archway leads into a separate sittingroom with a stylish open fire topped by a chunky log mantelpiece. The bedrooms are located on either side of the elegant, light-filled sittingroom, with en-suites offering the choice of bath or shower. The new wet floor shower room is wheelchair accessible.

Again it was a wonderful stay here at Muirhall Farm,We loved to come back and we will come back again next year,(already booked) It was so cosy to light the fire in the evenings and to spend the days in this beautiful landscape! Really is now our home away from home. From all the things to do around here we still have alot to discover,Even though we have already been here twice and both times for two weeks. Thank you for making our stay so friendly (family) so until the next time,Take care.
