Caber Faidh Ardnarmurchan, Fort William

Ardnamurchan is a really beautiful hidden corner of Britain: it is rich in a wide variety of wildlife and there are activities to suit all tastes. Enjoy the wonderful Highland scenery and rugged beauty, relax in the peace and privacy, explore beautiful white sandy beaches and turquoise seas. There is so much to see and do in the area no matter what your interests.

Ardnamurchan stretches from Loch Linnhe in the east to the Atlantic Ocean in the west and it is famous for its rugged wilderness, forests and rocky landscape. The area is a birdwatcher's paradise - many species are either natives or visitors and you can expect to see oystercatchers, sandpipers, tawny owls and even a golden eagle. Caber Faidh is a great base for either a relaxing break or a more energetic and active holiday. Fort William, the Outdoor Capital of the UK, is little more than an hour away with Ben Nevis and Glen Coe both worth a day trip.

The area is wonderful walking country, whether you want a short easy stroll from the house or a full day's mountain climbing, you will find something here to suit you. There are also great places to visit. Sitting at the most westerly point on the British mainland, Ardnamurchan Lighthouse is definitely worth a trip. Built in 1849, it is the only Egyptian-style lighthouse in the world. You can also discover the ruin of Mingary Castle, once the stronghold of the MacIan Clan, or the extinct volcano crater at Achanaha. Why not climb Ben Hiant, the highest point on the peninsula (528m), or take to the water in search of dolphins and whales.

In Ardnamurchan you can feel that you are away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. As you cross Loch Linnhe and leave the Corran Ferry behind, you will discover the stunning scenery of hills, waterfalls, woods and water and you can choose between a relaxing break or an action packed holiday.

The house has free WIFI access, a Playstation 2 with games, books, games and playing cards. The village of Acharacle is a few miles away and has a great general store, tea shop, pub and restaurants.

Accommodation:
Caber Faidh is a home-from-home; comfortable and well-equipped with everything you could need for a relaxing self-catering holiday in Scotland. The kitchen is fully equipped with an electric cooker, microwave oven, fridge, dishwasher, freezer, washing machine and tumble dryer. The dining room has a large table seating 8 comfortably on leather chairs and two windows looking out over the garden. The radio/CD player has a selection of music available and there are abundant candles should you wish to dine by candlelight. A cosy living room has a wood-burning stove, comfortable leather and fabric sofas, large LCD television which has all terrestrial and basic Sky channels together with DVD and video players plus a film library. Games, books and playing cards and toys are also available.

The downstairs bathroom has an over-bath shower. Upstairs the three bedrooms are totally flexible to suit your needs. The Master Bedroom has a king-size bed plus a double sofa bed (only made up when required); the second bedroom is a twin room again with a double sofa bed should you require it. The third bedroom has bunk beds with a pull-out trundle bed and houses the Playstation 2. The holiday house sits in its own enclosed, informal garden and has wonderful views of the surrounding open countryside. There is garden furniture - dining table, chairs with cushions and parasol and a charcoal BBQ for al fresco dining during the warmer months. Logs for the wood burner are provided for the duration of your stay. A welcome pack, selection of guest toileteries and free WIFI access are also included. A telephone is available with an honesty box.

Argyll cottage directions:
Take the Corran ferry (no booking required), 8 miles south of Fort William (on the A82) and on leaving the ferry turn left. Carry on through Strontian to Salen. Go through the village of Acharacle and turn left onto the B road sign posted for Newton of Ardtoe. Stay on this road for approximately 2.5 miles and Caber Faidh can be found on the right hand side.

Cost and availability.
This lovely Arnamurchan holiday cottage is rented out year round. Change over day is Saturday with arrival time of 4pm and departure 10am.
Short breaks are available and there are discounts for repeat bookings or recommendations.
