The town of Alyth situated in east Perthshire is a wonderful base from which to explore this beautiful part of Scotland. The area offers a superb choice for walkers of all abilities with numerous forest walks, a range of longer walks in the Cairngorms and also the opportunity to tackle a selection of Munros. The area is also a haven for wildlife. Native red squirrels and numerous species of birds can be seen in the Den of Alyth whilst a few miles away at either Lintrathen Loch or the Loch of Lowes ospreys are often spotted.
There are many historic places of interest to visit in the surrounding area including the Angus Folk Museum, Glamis Castle � the childhood home of the late Queen Mother � and Scone Palace. The famous town of St Andrews is only an hour�s drive away with its wonderful golf courses, beautiful beaches, the St Andrews Aquarium not to mention its famous university. Closer by is Dundee with attractions such as Discovery Point, HM Frigate Unicorn, Science Sensation, the award winning Verdant Works and Dundee Contemporary Arts. In nearby Kirriemuir you can visit the birthplace of J M Barrie, Peter Pan's author, as well as the Camera Obscurra on Kirrie Hill.
Alyth, Perthshire and the surrounding area is a golfer�s paradise with over 60 courses within an hour�s drive. There are, however, challenging and beautiful courses very close at hand. Alyth Golf Club has an 18 hole course designed by James Baird over a 100 years ago while both Glenisla Golf Course and the Strathmore Golf Centre have well designed courses to suit all abilities.
There are also opportunities for fishing. Salmon and sea trout are found in the Rivers Isla, Ericht, Blackwater and Shee and there is good trout fishing in the numerous hill lochs of Glen Shee and the Angus Glens.

Accommodation:
Cairnleith Cottage was built in 1860, with the upper floor being added in 1920, and is situated in a quiet street backing onto the Alyth Burn. The cottage has been tastefully modernised, having full gas central heating, built-in oven and hob, an automatic washing machine and tumble drier, while retaining many original period features including an open fireplace and Gypsy stove.
On entering the front door of the cottage the hallway leads to a bathroom, sitting room and kitchen with utility room off leading to the rear door. The large, downstairs bathroom is complete with WC, bath and electric shower. From the hallway a natural wood stair leads to the upper floor.
The upper floor has spacious double and twin rooms and a small single room plus a WC and washroom.
At the front, the cottage is situated well back from the street and there is a large, bright, enclosed garden to the rear with lawns, trees and flower beds.
Directions:-
Travelling north on the A94 from Perth take a left turn just before Meigle, signposted Alyth, onto the B954. After about 2 and a 1/2 miles take 1st left at the roundabout onto the A926, and after 1/2 mile take a right turn onto the B952. Proceed into Alyth and turn right at the Airlie Garage into Mart Street. At the end of the street turn left into Cairnleith Place. The cottage (number 5) is the red sandstone property on the right.
What's included:
Gas central heating plus electric fire and fan heater.
A basket of logs and some coal and kindling are provided but visitors are asked to leave enough fuel for the next guests to light a fire on arrival.
Bed linen and towels are provided.
Pets are welcome at a charge of �15/week.

Change over day is preferably Saturday with entry at 3pm and check out by 10am.
Short breaks are available, outwith June-September and the Christmas and New Year period, for a minimum of two days.
