Dolphin Cottage forms part of a converted sandstone barn that sits high on the Black Isle overlooking the sea. The cottage is set amongst 160 of woodland glens interwoven with footpaths through trees and streams and offering stunning views over the sea. The nearest village Rosemarkie is just over 2 miles away with village shops, some great places to eat and a beautiful beach - a children's favourite as it combines sandy beach with fascinating rock pools.
The Black Isle, 16 miles from Inverness, is not actually an island but a peninsula forming the northern shore of the Moray Firth and is known for its mild and sunny climate. Ideal as a holiday attraction, it is renowned for its picturesque villages, historic streets, heritage museums, great pubs and restaurants and of course its beautiful unspoilt beaches. Nearby Chanonry Point in Fortrose is one of the best places in the world to spot bottlenose dolphins in their natural habitat. The Black Isle is a haven for wild life; deer, pine marten, buzzards and many different birds including oyster catchers and red kites.
Groam House Museum and Hugh Millar's House are just a few miles away and are fascinating places to visit whilst staying at this lovely Ross-shire holiday cottage. Other popular attractions are The Black Isle Brewery, the RSPB reserve at Munlochy, the old fishing village of Avoch and Cromarty from where you can catch a the smallest car ferry in Scotland (The Cromarty Rose) across the water to Nigg. Inverness has all the amenities and interests of a big city whilst Loch Ness is only 40 minutes away. The Black Isle is an ideal base from which to make day trips to the classic Scottish attractions: castles, distilleries, salmon jumping, gardens and outstanding scenery can all be easily explored within a day. The West Coast of Scotland is a short drive away: The Isle of Skye can be reached in under 2 hours, as can other areas like Ullapool and Inverewe Gardens.
The Black Isle really is a hidden gem, big skies, wide open spaces, friendly relaxed people - the sort of place you might never want to leave!
