Glenelg is a thriving crofting community of around 300 residents, it has a village shop and Post Office for essential supplies, a gift shop and village cafe to give plenty of inspiration for a lasting memento, and the very famous Glenelg Inn which makes a good stop off for drinks and meals - local produce is a speciality. A trip to Glen Beag and the Brochs is made complete by a visit to the Wagon Coffee Shop, and a visit to Corran and Arnisdale takes you right to the door of Sheena's Tea Hut where the temptation of fresh home baking is too much to resist.
As you travel around these hills and glens you will encounter two unique things: the highland landscape which is dramatic and full of surprises, and the highland people, renowned for their warmth and hospitality. The area is steeped in history: Iron Age Brochs, Hanovarian Barracks set amidst mountains glens and waterfalls. Also, Sandaig home of Gavin Maxwell and the inspiration for his book Ring of Bright Water.
You can take the small ferry from Glenelg to the Isle of Skye in the summer - the best way to arrive on a Scottish island! Bernera Beach Holiday House makes the perfect base from which to experience both.
