Katy Ann's, a traditional white cottage situated in the crofting village of Achiltibuie, on the wild and stunningly beautiful Coigach Peninsula is the perfect destination for outdoor adventurers, wildlife enthusiasts and for those seeking peace, tranquility and fresh air. Gaze out across the bay to the Summer Isles and the Hebrides beyond, spot the otters and sea eagles if you are lucky, or take a short walk to the Summer Isles Hotel and its Michelin star restaurant and pub. Katy Ann's cosy and very comfortable self-catering accommodation with large open fire and outstanding views will soon lull you into blissful relaxation.
Nearby there are amazing white sandy beaches at Achnahaird, Achmelvich and Clashnessie and gentle coastal walks from Achiltibuie to Reiff as well the famous ancient sandstone hills of Stac Pollaidh, Suilven and Ben More Coigach. The area is of great geological interest and has recently been awarded Geo Park Status. Visit the Knockan Crag Visitor centre to find out the history of the rocks.
There are a host of fishing opportunities on the rivers, lochs and sea from the shore or by boat. There are also opportunities to take the local cruise boat around the islands to spot seals, porpoises and rare birds with a stop off on Tanera Mor island. For the more energetic, sea kayaking is increasingly
popular and Norwest Sea Kayaking provide all equipment and expert guides to help you explore the deserted islands and unspoilt coastline of the north west of Scotland.
From Achiltibuie it is possible to make a range of day trips. Inverewe Gardens are about a 2 hours drive - a famous micro climate garden started by Osgood Mackenzie who made use of the Gulf Stream. Handa Island, 1 hour drive north of Achiltibuie, is a bird reserve home to breeding puffins and skuas - boat trips leave every 15 minutes in season. Alternatively, drive along the 'wee mad road' from Achiltibuie to Lochinver that carves its way through the Inverpolly Nature reserve. Look out for nesting golden eagles and pop into the famous Achins Bookshop. Visit the Highland Stoneware Pottery for beautiful hand painted stoneware and stop in at the Picture Shack for paintings, pastels, watercolours and photographs of this stunning area.
You can make the most of the mountains and islands in and around Achiltibuie or just sit and soak up the endless tranquillity of Europe's last wilderness.
