Lochinvar Cottage is a beautifully restored stone built cottage situated in a stunning location on the banks of its own 85 acre loch (fly fishing available) in the heart of the Glenkens. Centrally located for the 7 Stanes mountain bike centres and on a national cycling byway, it is ideal for cyclists as well as walkers, fishing enthusiasts and families. The Galloway activity centre and Loch Ken water ski club are only a few miles away on the banks of Loch Ken. Non motorised water activities are permitted on the private loch at the self-catering cottage.
The cottage is situated on an unclassified road in a quiet and very peaceful rural situation just 3 miles from St John's Town of Dalry. The pretty village has a charming main street of mainly painted harled houses and a range of convenience stores, a post office, bank (restricted opening times) and a hotel. The village of New Galloway is only three miles further down the road offering additional village store and selection of cafes/pubs. The market town of Castle Douglas is 20 miles away.
Dumfries and Galloway is packed with attractions, activities, places to see and things to do. There is an abundance of natural heritage and wildlife, interesting arts and crafts, beautiful gardens, museums and visitor centres, places of historic interest and plenty to entertain the children both indoors and out.

There are great opportunities for both bird watching and walking. There are several walks in the surrounding area (information in cottage) and the cottage is situated on the Southern Upland Way. For cyclists, as well as the mountain bike routes in the area, the cottage is situated on a cycling byway and there are many routes in the surrounding area on single track and quiet roads.
Accommodation:
An entrance vestibule leads to a comfortable open plan sitting room with large wood burning stove and exposed ceiling beams.
The room is open plan to the dining room and has stairs leading up to a double mezzanine bedroom with magnificent views across the loch.
There is a well equipped galley style kitchen with fridge freezer, microwave and dishwasher.
Beyond the dining room there is a ground floor twin bedroom which is furnished with two single beds and a guest bed. The single beds can be linked together to make a double if required.
Outside there is a garage to the side of the property which can be used for storage of bikes, drying of outdoor clothing etc (4 bikes are available for use at own risk). In the garden there is a brick built barbeque area with plenty outdoor furniture.
Directions:
From Castle Douglas proceed north for about 16 miles on the A713 following the signs for Ayr until you reach St John's Town of Dalry.
From the town turn right at the monument onto the A702 following signs for Moniave. Follow the road for about 3 miles through the hamlet of Bogue.
About one mile after Bogue turn left onto the unclassified road sign posted Milnmark Farm and Lochinvar.
Follow this road for approx 1 mile past Duchrae Farm house and Lochinvar Cottage is on your right next to the loch.
From Ayr, proceed south on the A713 following the signs for Castle Douglas until you reach St John's Town of Dalry then follow directions above.
What's included: Heating through the night storage heaters are included in the rental price as are logs for the wood burning stove.
Bed linen is provided and beds are made for arrival.
Also provided is a telephone (with an honesty box), welcome pack including milk, bread, orange juice etc.
Library of DVD and video films. There are 4 bicycles (2 adult and 2 child bikes) for use at own risk. Free WiFi.
Cost and availability:
Lochinvar Cottage is rented out year round. Change over day is a Saturday with check in at 4pm, check out by 10am.
Short breaks are available during the low season.
