This particular part of Scotland offers you a diverse range of activities. Fife is well known for a range of outdoor pursuits; golf on world-famous championship courses, coastal walks, cycling, bird watching, award winning beaches, water sports and sightseeing around the quaint old fishing villages. You are spoilt for choice for things to do! There are boat trips to the Isle of May and a new marina in nearby Anstruther to watch the pleasure boats come and go. In Pittenweem there is an active fishing fleet where the catch is landed daily. It is also the home of the highly popular and widely recognised arts festival which takes place annually.
Other attractions are the local beaches, art galleries, antique and craft shops. On a more practical level the local shops are still around to give you that true village feel; there is a butcher, baker, fish-monger, convenience store, pharmacy and post office all within Pittenweem, as well as pubs and cafes serving food and drink.
Fife is steeped in history and there are many castles, churches and National Trust properties to visit. In Anstruther there is the award winning Fisheries Museum and nearby is Scotlands Secret Bunker. A short drive takes you to the beautiful old town of St Andrews, "The Home of Golf" and Scotland's oldest university - it is one of the most fascinating towns in Scotland and well worth a visit.
If you are a golfer you will be in paradise playing all the excellent courses nearby, not to mention the famous Old Course in St Andrews. Enjoy a round of golf on the Anstruther course at a very reasonable rate and play The Rockies, the par three fifth hole, voted the toughest in Britain in 2007 by one of the leading golf journals. Nearby there are also excellent courses at Elie, Lundin Links and two superb courses at Crail as well as the championship course at Kingsbarns.
