Winton Cottage is in the beautiful county of East Lothian, a short drive from the sweeping sandy beaches of the east coast and the wide open spaces of the Lammermuir Hills. Lying in the beautiful Winton Estate, it is situated in the grounds of Winton House, one of Scotland's most gorgeous stately homes. It is close to excellent fishing in the Scottish Borders or at nearby Markle Fisheries. Also sailing, horse riding and hill walking are available nearby. Musselburgh Racecourse has a full calendar of events and a day at the races is enjoyed by many guests here. Glenkinchie Distillery is just on the doorstep and offers tours and tastings and nearby is the award-winning Scottish Seabird Centre in North Berwick, not to mention the city of Edinburgh itself.
East Lothian has over 20 excellent golf courses both links and inland, including the famous Muirfield Links where The Open is often held. These are all within a 20-30 min drive from Winton. There are several swimming pools and leisure facilities in the area as well as East Links Family Fun Park, a must for children, young and old. There are also 20 km of Winton Walks on the estate for those who want a jog before breakfast! A range of entertaining activities can be arranged on the estate from clay pigeon shooting to whisky/champagne tasting, and even Highland Games (guests should book in advance). This historic 5 star property sleeps up to 12 in five individually decorated, spacious bedrooms, with five luxury bathrooms. Winton Cottage is perfect for guests looking for self-catering near Edinburgh. It is a large and very comfortable holiday house with its own sunny garden complete with BBQ area, outside seating, summer house and sandpit.
The house itself has a large kitchen leading through to the dining room that has French windows which open onto the south facing garden. There is also a great games room complete with plasma screen TV, surround sound system, pool table and fridge for those beers! The sitting room has a lovely window seat looking over the garden and an open fire.
There are two staircases with two bedrooms up each set and the remaining bedroom on the ground floor, which is wheelchair accessible. Each of the bedrooms has its own bathroom and plenty of space to feel at home.
Directions:
From Edinburgh or the north, take the A1 to Tranent and the B6355 to Pencaitland. From the south or east, Pencaitland is signposted from Haddington, the A1 and A68.
