Gairnshiel Cottage offers delightful recently refurbished holiday accommodation. It is situated between West Calder and Carnwath in the heart of the Scottish countryside but still within 40 minutes drive of two stunning cities Edinburgh and Glasgow. The views from the cottage are breathtaking: it has a wonderful position on the organic farm of South Cobbinshaw overlooking the Pentland Hills and Cobbinshaw Loch. The 310 acre loch was built in 1818 to feed the Union Canal and was also used by passing steam trains to collect water. It is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSI) due to wintering wildfowl and is popular with anglers and birdwatchers.
For those who enjoy the outdoors but would like to take it a bit easier, fishing on the loch can be organised for you. Nearby Harburn Golf Club is a challenging 18-hole parkland course and there are walks of all levels starting literally on your doorstep, taking in stunning scenery and fascinating history. If shopping and attractions are your thing - the designer shops of Livingston are 15 minutes away and unique little shops and galleries are found in Biggar and Peebles.
Not far away is New Lanark World Heritage Village. Surrounded by beautiful native woodland and close to the Falls of Clyde, the 200 year old cotton mill village is Scotland's most important memorial to the Industrial Revolution. Take a stroll along the riverside on one of the woodland walks and experience the outstanding beauty the Falls of Clyde - where the River Clyde cascades 85ft.
For those who like to travel a bit further afield the scenic splendours of the Borders, Perthshire, Fife, Loch Lomond and the Trossachs are all within easy reach and make for great day trips.
