This lovely self-catering holiday apartment is situated in the heart of the Ancient Royal Burgh of South Queensferry, a small town situated on the banks of the River Forth between two world famous landmarks, the Forth Rail Bridge and the Forth Road Bridge. Queensferry has much to offer the visitor to Scotland. Attractions include its very rich history dating back to the 11th century when Queen Margaret of Scotland gave right of passage for pilgrims to travel across the River Forth. Robert Louis Stephenson stayed at the Hawes Inn and wrote his famous book 'Kidnapped'. Queensferry has a marina and sailing school, river boat cruises and several golf courses nearby. It is ideally located for visiting Edinburgh, Glasgow, the Borders, West Lothian and Fife, and for visitors travelling further north.
You arrive at the property in the heart of the historic town on the High Street and can park in the car park opposite. Immediately you will be taken by the breathtaking views across the Firth of Forth to Fife. The car park sits in the middle of the two majestic bridges. The raised terrace dates back in parts to the 17th century - the Terrace is designated as an area of outstanding architectural interest. Many stories exist about former inhabitants of the Terrace. It is said that in one garden there is an old witches graveyard! The property overlooks the High Street which hosts the annual Ferry Fair where you can see the world famous Burry Man. This is a man who dresses in a costume of burrs and walks the boundaries of Queensferry once a year. It is thought that this custom dates back to medieval times and it is a symbol of prosperity and fertility. You now go up a small covered vennel (passageway) and up a further flight of steps to the entrance.
The property which is all on one level has just been renovated and extended sympathetically to the highest standard and now provides one double bedroom, one twin bedroom, a bath/shower room, galley kitchen and wonderful vaulted dining/living room which leads out through glazed doors to a private terrace and walled garden area. It is the perfect spot for a peaceful break near Edinburgh. There is an abundance of restaurants and pubs within a very short walking distance. During the summer season there are regular events such as the Raft Race, the Ferry Fair, Ferry Fringe and others. There are shore walks through the grounds of Dalmeny House or through the deer park of Hopetoun House. Both these stately homes are open to visitors during the summer. The area boasts plentiful wildlife including seals and on rare occasions whales. There are regular boat trips to Inchcolm Island with its famous 13th century abbey. The island sits in the middle of the Forth and is a haven for seabirds and seals. There is plenty to do within the town itself but there are also fast rail and road links to Edinburgh, Glasgow and the north. Edinburgh airport is also within easy reach.
