The Finzean Estate extends over several thousand acres, encompassing farmland, moorland and forestry and has been in the ownership of the Farquharson family for sixteen generations, including the renowned Victorian landscape painter, Joseph Farquharson. In this unique and stunning setting there are interesting walks, both gentle and challenging. Royal Deeside is a popular tourist destination with spectacular scenery and the added attraction of Balmoral Castle. Highland Games take place in different villages during the summer months, culminating in the Braemar Gathering in September.
The National Trust owns many castles in the area which are always a firm favourite with visitors. The River Dee is very popular with salmon fishermen and Finzean and other local estates offer stalking and shooting, in season. There are three 18 hole golf courses and one 9 hole course, designed by Tom Morris in 1908, within a twelve mile radius which are guaranteed to keep the golfers happy. For those interested in the arts, the Aboyne and Deeside Festival presents a programme of arts-based events each July.
The surrounding countryside has much of historical interest including the Balnagowan 'necropolis', a collection of nearly 1000 cairns. A few miles west of Finzean, lie the villages of Lumphanan and Kincardine o' Neil which have links to the battle in which King Malcolm Canmore defeated Macbeth in 1057. And for those who are interested in another aspect of life in Scotland, the Royal Lochnagar Distillery and a real ales brewery are only a short drive away!

Accommodation:
Deer Park Cottage stands in a secluded spot in the private grounds of Finzean Estate. Outside the cottage is a garden bench and table, perfect for enjoying the sunshine.
The cottage is fully equipped, tastefully decorated and benefits from central heating. Downstairs is the sitting room with a large old stone fireplace and woodburning stove, comfortable seating and a colour TV. The dining room leads through to the kitchen with electric cooker, fridge and washing machine. The bathroom has a bath with shower over, WC and basin.
The three pretty bedrooms are on the first floor and have lovely aspects. One room has a double bed, one has twin beds and the third room has bunk beds.
Directions:
South Deeside Road � B974 from Banchory to Strachan and then onwards on the B976 to Aboyne, via Finzean.
What's included:
Central heating and electricity are included in the rental price and logs are provided for the wood burning stove.
Bed linen and towels are provided.
