This edinburgh accommodation review is due to expire:
Only 20 miles from the capital city of Edinburgh, this delightful little gate lodge offers the ideal location to enjoy a whole host of activities and to set about exploring the beautiful town of Peebles and stunningly attractive Borders region. Only a stone's throw from the town centre, you could not be better placed to learn about the town's distinct heritage, culture and traditions. The town sits on the banks of the magnificient River Tweed, well known as 'The Queen of the Scottish Salmon Rivers'. Although the river is most associated with internationally famous salmon and trout fishing, a wide choice of fishing is available, such as perch, grayling, pike and roach fishing.
In and around Peebles, the area is graced with superb championship golf courses, none more so than the local Peebles Golf Course considered one of the finest in the Borders. For the biking enthusiast, the Glentress Mountain Bike Centre is rated 'the best dedicated mountain bike centre in Britain' and offers trails for all grades. Set between the Moorfoots and the Southern Uplands, Peebles provides a range of walks to suit all tastes and abilities. Particularly popular is an easy riverside walk which leads along the beautiful River Tweed from the town centre.
In the evening, the Gate Lodge is the perfect haven in which to unwind. The rear of the property is ideal for a bit of cooked meat on the bar-b-que or if feeling lazy, just take a short stroll to the nearby Hayloft Bar and Restaurant for some great food and wine in a traditional stone loft conversion. The gate lodge has been finished to a high standard offering excellent accommodation and modern comforts and yet retaining the charm and character of a Georgian period lodge.
Peebles is widely recognised as an arts destination town with a wide range of local contemporary and traditional art available. The 240 seat Eastgate Theatre and Arts Centre is a centre of excellence attracting touring theatre companies, performing visual arts, dance, craft, music and cinema all year round. Peebles is also a festival town with a number of spectacular annual celebrations including the Beltane Festival, the Rugby Sevens Tournament, the Peebles Jazz festival and the renowned arts festival.
Peebles is ranked as the Top Independent Retailing Town in Scotland, and second in the UK for its range of independent shops and 'home town' identity.
