One of two gorgeous Visit Scotland 4 star self-catering holiday cottages situated amongst 5 acres of private gardens and woodlands. The cottages back onto the Historic Scotland site of Rough Castle, the remains of the best preserved Roman fort on the Antonine Wall
- the Antonine Wall actually runs through the grounds of the cottage, you can walk along the Antonine Wall along woodland paths to the famous Falkirk Wheel.
The owners have built a wonderful spa complex with a heated swimming pool that is available all year and heated to 32C, a hot tub, a sauna, an indoor garden kitchen, extensive decked areas with seating and sunloungers. There are also indoor seating areas with a bar in case of rain and barbeques available. This relaxation area is completely private and available to hire for get togethers, birthdays, family reunions or just to chill out on holidays – prices are from £15 to use all facilities per cottage not per person.
The cottages have been recently converted from a listed 1820s stable block, and many of the 200 year old features
have been retained. Hayloft cottage offers luxury self-catering
accommodation with light and modern features including striking double height ceilings in the living area, and a
state of the art kitchen. The cottages were designed to offer easy access for disabled visitors.

Children are welcome at the cottages and there is a superb play area within the cottage grounds with a large trampoline,
climbing ropes, swings, a slide, sandpit and garden furniture. Both cottages have their own private garden area
Hayloft holiday cottage is equipped for disabled visitors and has been built with the needs of wheelchair
users in mind. This cottage is 'Visit Scotland' awarded 'grade 3 access' - although
technically they fulfil all the requirements for grade 2 there is no roll-in
shower, making showering a bit difficult - although there are grab rails etc.
You can park just outside the entrance door, there is no ramp, but no internal or external steps, making wheel chair access possible.
There is fishing close by on a loch and on the canal, and guests are welcome to use our fishing rods.
Hayloft cottage sleeps four to six people with 2 double bedrooms and a comfortable sofa bed,
which is useful when additional accommodation is required.
The cottage is very warm and has fully controllable electric heating with timers.
The kitchen is well equipped with stainless steel appliances and includes a dishwasher, microwave, fridge-freezer, washing machine, tumble dryer, oven and hob.
For those with a small family, a cot and high chair that can be provided at no charge
The sitting room is large with comfortable sofas, colour television with DVD/video player, with a selection of DVDs and CDs.
There is one bathroom which has a shower and a bath, and shaver-point.
We have a 'no-smoking' policy in the house, however you are more than welcome to sit and smoke in the garden.
From Edinburgh follow the M9 towards Stirling, just past Falkirk take the turnoff onto the road signposted ‘Glasgow’ (M876) and then follow the signs for Bonnybridge.
When you reach Bonnybridge follow the signs for Rough Castle and High Bonnybridge, turn into Bonnyside Road, follow the road for about a mile when it will become a single track road, drive over the railway bridge and turn left at the large gates signed Bonnyside House. The cottages are to the left of Bonnyside House.

All bed, bathroom and kitchen linen are provided (a laundry charge of £15 when a sofa bed is used).

The electricity is payable by meter reading at the end of each stay.

Rental periods are generally Saturday-Saturday arrival 4pm and departure at 10am - unless otherwise arranged.
