Kirk Cottage Kinnettles, Angus |
|
Kirk Cottage in Angus is a lovely two bedroom cottage in the small hamlet of Kirkton of Kinnettles in the lea of the Sidlaw hills on the south side of the Vale of Strathmore. The cottage is conveniently situated only 2 miles from the county town of Forfar and 3 miles from the village of Glamis with its famous castle. Also nearby is Kirriemuir known locally as the "wee red toon" and birthplace of J.M. Barrie. There is easy access to the well known Angus glens of Prosen, Clova and Isla. Slightly further west Glenisla leads on into Glenshee with its ski area from where the road continues to Braemar and Royal Deeside.
Travel north up the A94 and onto the dual carriageway to discover Brechin and on to Aberdeen or turn off to Edzelland, Glenesk or Fettercairn and its famous distillery. Across to Montrose on the coast there is a wildfowl reserve on Montrose basin and an interesting harbour. South Lunan Bay has wonderful sand dunes and a mile long beach with a good parking area. Further down the coast is the fishing town of Arbroath with its harbour and of course it is home to the world famous Arbroath smokies.
For the energetic there are the hills and glens for walking and climbing, with various degrees of difficulty. For the golfer there is an abundance of good quality courses. Only half an hour away is the famous links championship course at Carnoustie; closer at hand you can play a round of golf at Forfar, Kirriemuir, Alyth, Blairgowrie and many more. Fishing is available on nearby rivers and lochs.
Dundee, the city of Discovery, and the Fair City of Perth are both only half an hour away or St Andrews in Fife and Bair Atholl in Perthshire just a little further. Alternatively, you may of course just wish to stay at Kirk Cottage for a well earned bit of peace and quiet!
