East Lothian has been described as the "garden of Scotland" and it's not difficult to see why with its gentle rolling hills, broad open plains and fine stretch of coast line. Guests have the best of both worlds, being within a half hour drive of Edinburgh but yet enjoying the quiet and calm of the country. The surrounding area is a golfer's paradise with over 12 courses within easy reach. The local course at Gifford is a short walk away but there are championship courses at Gullane and Muirfield and other good courses at Aberlady, Craiglaw, and North Berwick. If you are on a family holiday the miles of beautiful golden beaches will keep the children happy for hours as well as plenty of country walks.
Other nearby attractions include Musselburgh Racecourse, Glenkinchie Distillery, the Scottish Seabird Centre, East Links Family Farm, Aberlady Nature Reserve, the John Muir Country Park and the city of Edinburgh itself with its wealth of galleries, museums and restaurants. East Lothian also has a number of historic buildings to visit including Tantallon, Dirleton and Hailes Castles, Lennoxlove House and Prestonmill with its working water driven mill.

Accommodation:
Woodturner's Cottage has been refurbished to a very high standard and is spacious and comfortable.
On the ground floor is the entrance porch leading to large dining kitchen, fully equipped with washer/dryer, microwave, fridge freezer, dishwasher, coffee maker etc. The spacious living room has a log burning stove, TV/DVD, and access to the garden. There is a twin bedroom with built in wardrobes and adjoining shower room.
On the first floor is the master double bedroom with flat screen TV, built in wardrobes and en-suite shower room, further spacious twin bedroom with built in wardrobe and a family bathroom.
Outside the garden is fully enclosed and has a paved area with wooden garden furniture. There is ample parking for 2/3 cars.
Directions:
Haddington is the nearest town which is just off the A1.
Coming from the A1 head in direction of the town centre, go straight through a set of traffic lights and at the next corner go straight ahead instead of following the road into the town (bathroom shop on your left), keep straight passing the Tyneside Pub on your right, over a bridge and keep following twists and turns of the road for approx 5 miles and you will approach the village of Gifford. With church on your left, turn right into the village, keep going straight through. Once you come up the hill out of the village, take the first road on the left signposted Castle Park Golf Club and Longyester. Yester Mains is the first farm on the left along that road on the left.
What's included:
A basket of logs for the woodburning stove is provided. Additional logs can be purchased at a small charge. Bed linen and hand towels are provided. Bath towels can be provided at a small charge.
Cost and availability:
Woodturner's Cottage is rented out all year. Change over day is Saturday with check in after 2pm and check out by 10am.
