Cottages in Argyll

cottages sleeping 1 to 4 people in Perthshire

The Villa House is a beautifully appointed late Georgian property, which has recently been restored and modernized to create a grand yet wonderfully warm and welcoming atmosphere and a truly superb residence in which to stay. There are exceptional coastal views to be enjoyed from the house, towards the islands of the Inner Hebrides and out across the ocean.

The accommodation retains many original features such as the traditional sash windows (some with stained glass detail), real open fires and the servants call bells in the kitchen. The ground floor comprises an impressive hall, wonderful farmhouse-style breakfast kitchen complete with Rayburn stove and separate pantry, cloakroom, a cosy sitting room with French doors leading to the garden, tranquil front drawing room with superb coastal views and stunning dining room that can seat up to ten, again with sea views. Once you have climbed up the grand sweeping staircase, you will discover five beautifully decorated bedrooms and three bathrooms, sleeping nine people in total in three double rooms, a twin and a single.

Superbly situated on the west coast of the Kintyre peninsula, Killean Estate spans over approx 4,000 acres encompassing a dramatic landscape of coastline and beaches, farmland, woodlands, tropical gardens, lochs and heather-clad hillsides. There are many vantage points enjoying panoramic views over the sea to the highlands and islands beyond, all the way to Northern Ireland. The estate is steeped in history and has a number of interesting Iron Age sites which altogether makes for fantastic, highly entertaining walks, right from the doorstep and an opportunity to explore without seeing another person all day! For those with an interest in countryside sports, complementary trout fishing can be enjoyed on the estate's lochs or from the gorgeous sandy beach, where you might also spot a seal, basking in the sun on the rocks. Excellent shooting can be arranged on the estate - from a day's clay pigeon, to grouse shooting or deer stalking. The estate also runs a successful farming enterprise with sheep, Highland and Aberdeen Angus cattle grazing on the land.

Kintyre itself has plenty to see and do with five golf courses, horse riding and hiking opportunities aplenty. Island hopping and visiting the various castles and historical monuments are also very popular activities. Benefitting from the Gulf Stream, it is usually far warmer here than the rest of Scotland, and even allows for tropical plants to grow within the gardens!
