Cottages in Argyll

cottages sleeping 1 to 4 people in Perthshire

This part of the Western Highlands offers a wealth of exciting things to see and do. Whether you are looking for a quiet break allowing you to recharge your batteries and get away from the hustle and bustle of life today or you want an active and energetic holiday, the Ardnamurchan Peninsula is the place for you. The scenery here is dramatic and breathtaking; from rugged rocky hills to stunning views across the lochs to the open sea. Attractions include the Ardnamurchan Lighthouse (the most westerly point on the UK mainland) and a popular place to 'pop the question', castle ruins at Mingary, an extinct volcanic crater at Achnaha, white sandy beaches at Sanna and views out to the Western Isles.

Activities on offer include a 9-hole golf course at Resipole, cycling (bikes can be hired locally), sailing and yachting on either crewed or bare craft (available in Glenborrodale), walking, hiking and hill climbing (over 30 walks in the area), coarse and sea fishing with private tuition available locally, kayaking and diving.

A ferry runs to the isle of Mull (visit the main town of Tobermory, the real Balamory), and boat trips are available to visit Fingal's Cave on Staffa and the puffins on the Treshnish Isles. Book a whale and dolphin watching trip or take an organised walk during the summer with the RSPB from the Glenborrodale Nature Reserve. The Ardnamurchan Natural History Centre at Glenmore has a 'living building' with turf on the roof and bark on the floor and attracts all kinds of wildlife. The centre provides details of the peninsula's indigenous plant and animal life together with the geological history of the area. Whether you are looking for a gourmet meal or a bar lunch, there are plenty of great places to eat with most serving fresh, local produce.
